PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a treater that can efficiently perform the volume reduction and regeneration of an expanded polystyrene and is reduced in size. SOLUTION: An expanded polystyrene is dissolved in a solvent to form a solution. The solution is kneaded in a vacuum with a selfcleaning kneader 3, while it is heated in the kneader. The solvent vaporized by the vacuum and heating is condensed and recovered, and the regenerated polystyrene devoid of the solvent is extruded. The extrusion can be continuously performed, which leads to improved productivity. In the self-cleaning kneader, a space is formed in the upper part of the casing, and the paddles rotate in such a manner that their margins are in contact with the inside surface of the casing, and therefore, the dissolved product is transferred while it is thinned down. When the thinned dissolved matter reaches the upper space, the contained solvent is smoothly vaporized in a vacuum because of its thinness. |
