PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the pitching resistance of the tooth surface and the bending fatigue resistance of a dedendum without executing shot peening and grinding the tooth surface. SOLUTION: This gear is obtained by subjecting a gear formed body obtained from steel to carbonitriding treatment and thereafter executing quenching treatment, in which the concentration of carbon from the surface to a depth of 50μm is 0.5 to 1.0 wt.%, the concentration of nitrogen is 0.1 to 0.3 wt.%, and also, the amount of retained austenite from the surface to the depth of 50μm is <=40 vol.%.
