PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a centrifugal separator capable of safely and surely detecting the presence or absence of a cover without rotating a rotor in high speed and capable of avoiding occurrence of lifting of the rotor. SOLUTION: A judging means provided for the centrifugal separator for judging the presence or absence of the cover 1a of the rotor 1 specifies the rotor kind by an identification signal obtained by an identification means, measures the distance from a door 6 to a rotor 1 and compares the measured data with the reference distance data for discriminating the fitting or non-fitting of the cover 1a to the rotor 1 accommodated in the rotor chamber 5.
