PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the image quality of a recording image. SOLUTION: A drive signal generating circuit generates forward movement drive signals COM1 connected in series in the order of a large dot drive pulse DP1, a micro-dot drive pulse DP2 and a middle dot drive pulse DP3 at the time of forward movement of a recording head. Rearward movement drive signals connected in series are generated in the order of the middle dot drive pulse DP3, the micro-dot drive pulse DP2 and the large dot drive pulse DP1 at the time of rearward movement of the recording head. A necessary drive signal is selected from the forward movement drive signals or the rearward movement drive signals to be applied to a piezoelectric vibrator.
