PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a packaging method and an apparatus to be used for the method, in which a thermally shrinkable packaging material is uniformly shrinked under heating and can be mounted on a desired article without causing irregularity of wrinkles and, moreover, the apparatus is also kept in safety without being complicated in structure and enlarged in size. SOLUTION: An article X covered with a thermally shrinkable packaging material such as a shrink film passes through a shrink tunnel 12 by means of a transfer unit 16. Normal pressure steam having a predetermined temperature, which is obtained from a steam generating unit 14, is fed into the shrink tunnel 12. The normal pressure steam heated is ejected to the article X through a plurality of ejection ports 30a provided in the shrink tunnel 12. The packaging material is thermally shrinked and covers the surface of the article X in a close contact state. The article X covered tightly with the packaging material is discharged out of the device of the shrink tunnel 12.
