PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly and accurately detect what the charge of inoculant is not appropriately executed in the case of charging the inoculant to molten metal pouring stream, so as to avoid various troubles developed in the case this state can not be detected. SOLUTION: An inoculant charging device 3 is provided with a storing tank 6, a screw conveyor 7, a pipe 8, a nozzle 9, etc. The opening portion at the tip part of the nozzle 9 is positioned near the pouring hole of a molten metal pouring ladle 2 at least at the pouring time of the molten metal. An optical fiber sensor 15 whose surrounding is covered with a heat insulating material 16, is fitted to almost the tip portion of the nozzle 9. Needless to say in the case of developing the clogging, etc., at comparatively upstream side of the nozzle 9, and also, in the case of developing the clogging, etc., at the opening portion side of the nozzle 9, what the inoculant is not appropriately charged, can quickly be detected.
