PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a centrifugal multi-stage type compressor in which the production of polymer is effectively inhibited at a sealing portion and performance of the sealing portion can be retained well. SOLUTION: A centrifugal multi-stage type compressor 1 for compressing a butadiene gas B by rotating a plurality of impellers 5 mounted to a main shaft 7 in a casing 4 is provided with a sealing portion 10 fixed to the casing 4 in which the butadiene gas B extracted from any one of stages is fed as a buffer gas; and an inert fluid feeding device 34 for feeding an inert fluid into the sealing portion 10.
