PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brake device which is used for a double bearing type reel for fishing and utilizes a centrifugal force to prevent the over-rotation of a spool, when a fishing line is released, and in which the first and second moving frictional members stepwisely acting in response to the increase in the rotation speed of the spool are compactly arranged, thereby efficiently braking the spool by their combined braking characteristics and simplifying the structure. SOLUTION: In this brake device of the reel for fishing, a moving frictional member which is integrally revolved with a spool 2 and moved in the radially outer direction by the centrifugal force to be slidably brought into contact with the braking member 11 of the body 1 of the reel comprises the first moving frictional member 8 which is outward moved in the low speed rotation region of the spool and the second moving frictional member 10 which is outward moved in the high speed rotation region of the spool. The first moving frictional member 8 and the second moving frictional member 10 are coaxially arranged on the inner and outer sides, respectively, and are frictionally and slidably brought into contact with the braking member 11, respectively.
