PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a combustion condition detecting device for an internal combustion engine capable of easily specifying a cause of generation of non- combustion. SOLUTION: This device comprises an ion current detection means 5 detecting an ion current in accordance with an ion amount generated in a cylinder just after combustion of a mixture as an ion current detection signal X2a, signal detection means 7, 7A comparing the ion current detection signal X2a output from the ion current detection means 5 with first reference voltage Vth1 to output a first decision signal X3 and comparing the ion current detection signal X2a with second reference voltage Vth2 lower than the first reference voltage Vth1 to output a second decision signal X4 by invalidating an output of prescribed time from starting of this comparison, and an ECU10 estimating a cause of non-output of a combustion signal by a result of these first/second decision signals X3, X4.
