PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive printer having a mechanism for holding received print data. SOLUTION: When print data is received from a host, a page of data to be outputted is converted into bit map data and stored in the image output memory of RAMs1-6. Upon finishing output of data, a page of data stored in the RAM1-6 is stored in hard discs P3 and the RAMs are released. At the time of reprint, data is written from the hard discs 1-3 into the RAMs1-6 before being outputted.
