PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a binding work efficiency and prevent a worker from getting tired with binding work, which has all been carried out by a conventional method of manual operation, when a bunch of stem portions of petals of 'Sakaki', 'Shikimi' (anise tree), or the like is spirally wound and bound with a string. SOLUTION: This binding machine includes two holding members 2A, 2B, fore one and rear one, capable of holding a bunch of stem portions Xa of petals X in a sideways posture on a base stand 1, a rotary body 3 rotatable around a position concentric with holding cores of the holding members, a rotary drive unit 4 which causes the rotary body to rotate, and a reciprocal operation unit 5 which allows the rotary body 3 to reciprocatingly operate in the direction of a center axis of the rotation thereof. A string holder 6 containing a string roll 11 is mounted to the rotary body 3, and a string guide 7 for guiding a string 12 is provided to the rotary body 3. An operational range of the reciprocal operation unit 5 is set so that a forward end 7a of the string guide 7 moves forward and backward at an interval between both the holding members 2A, 2B within a range of the reciprocal movement of the rotary body 3. Thus, string winding work for the bunch of stem portions Xa can automatically be carried out.
