PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain the thickness of an upper structure of a vehicle body from being increased, so as to enhance the load transmission ability while reducing the dead weight thereof. SOLUTION: In a vehicle body upper structure composed of center pillars 7 and side roof rails 11 and a bawl roof 21 connecting between the side roof rails 11, outer parts 9 of the center pillars 7 are integrally incorporated with inner parts 17 of the side roof rails 11 while outer parts 13 of the side roof rails 11 are integrally incorporated with the bowl roof 21, and the center pillars 7 and the outer parts 13 of the side roof rails 11 are jointed and fixed together so that they are overlapped with each other in the center pillars 7. Further, pillar side joint parts 33 and the rail side joint parts 35 are formed in such a shape that both end parts thereof are lower than the inter mediate parts thereof, as viewed in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle body, or vice versa.
