PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a wrong decision on the replacement time of a refill 3 for a cartridge for an electric stapler. SOLUTION: A cartridge for an electric stapler can be loaded with a refill 3 consisting of a bound stack of sheetlike staples 4 each having straight staple connected into a sheet form. The upper sidewall of a storage part 1 is at least partly designed as a movable wall 7 swingable inward and outward. A sheetlike staple loading opening in the top end of the storage part 1 is closed by a cover element 2. The cover element 2 has on each side a cover portion 12 that covers the external surface of the movable wall 7. The cover portions 12 of the cover element 2 and the movable wall 7 are lockable together by lock means 10, 13 whose locking is released only when the movable wall 7 inclines inwardly of the storage part 1.
