PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a thick steel plate, with which the operational trouble and the occurrence of defective quality, such as breaking, caused by defective shape, such as center buckling, edge wave, warping, are prevented, and to provide its apparatus. SOLUTION: Just after rolling pass on the way of a reverse rolling and/or just after finish rolling pass of the reversible rolling, the heating treatment and the repeated bending and further, the tension in the rolling direction are applied to the thick steel plate to execute a shape straightening. A straightening machine disposing plural rolls at the upper and the lower parts of the pass line as zigzag state, a reversible hot-rolling mill and a heating means for thick steel plate are included, and the straightening machine and the heating means are arranged at near part of the inlet side and/or the outlet side of the hot- rolling mill. Further, a guide device for introducing the front tip part of the thick steel plate into the straightening machine, is arranged between the straightening machine and the hot-rolling mill.
