PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a cyclic olefin-based copolymer for improving its hue and light transmittance without harming its transparency, heat resistance, heat-aging resistance, chemical resistance, solvent resistance, dielectric characteristics and mechanical properties. SOLUTION: This method for producing a cyclic olefin-based copolymer by copolymerizing anα-olefin having >=2 number of carbon atoms with a cyclic olefin having a specific structure in the presence of a polymerization catalyst and a hydrocarbon-based solvent in a polymerization reactor, and separating un-reacted monomers, the catalyst and the solvent from the polymerization reaction liquid is provided by re-using the solvent treated with the removal of impurities containing unsaturated bond in the above separated solvent and returned into the polymerization reactor. The method for the removal treatment of the impurities containing unsaturated bond is preferably selected from a hydrogenation method, rectification method and adsorption treatment method.
