PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refining method, by which slag foaming can be restrained by selecting stirring gas having a restraining effect on foaming. SOLUTION: (1) In the refining method by adding the stirring gas into molten iron, as the stirring gas, gaseous hydrogen is used and the flow rate of gaseous hydrogen is regulated to >=0.04 Nm3/min.ton of molten iron. (2) In the refining method by adding the stirring gas into the molten iron, as the stirring gas, hydrocarbon is used and the flow rate of the gaseous hydrogen generated by the decomposition of the hydrocarbon is regulated to >=0.04 Nm3/min.ton of the molten iron. (3) In the refining method by adding the stirring gas into the molten iron, as the stirring gas, the hydrocarbon is used and the flow rate of the gaseous hydrogen generated by the decomposition of the hydrocarbon is regulated to 0.04-4.0 Nm3/min.ton of the molten iron.
