PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automate the measurement of tool as a systematized tool managing housing not as a simple tool housing. SOLUTION: This matrix type tool magazine is provided with a tool magazine rack 18, in which tool housing parts 20 for housing tools 16 are arranged in a matrix, a tool carrying device 16 to be moved along the tool magazine rack 18 so as to put a tool in and out of an indicated tool housing part and for delivering the tool between an automatic tool exchanging device 2, a tool preparing part 100 for preparing carry-in/out of a new tool to be used and an unnecessary tool in relation to the tool magazine rack, a moving means for reciprocating the tool between the predetermined preparing position inside of the tool preparing part 100 and a delivery position provided out of the preparing part and for delivering the tool to the tool carrying device, a tool weight measuring means for measuring weight of the tool carried into the tool preparing part, and a means for deciding the optimal tool carrying speed and the optimal tool exchanging speed on the basis of the measured weight of the tool.
