PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor photocatalyst-containing spherical silica gel body, having a high photocatalytic activity, and excellent in transparency and dispersibility. SOLUTION: In this silica gel body, a photocatalyst content is 30-60 wt.%, an average pore diameter is <=12 nm, the volume ratio of pores having a diameter of <=12 nm to the total pore volume is >=95%, and spectral transmittances are <=15% at 320 nm and >=50% at 500 nm.
