PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a needle type foreign matter from entering a drain pipe (drain means) so as to prevent a drain pipe from being locked up even when the needle type foreign matter entering a foreign matter collecting means passes through longitudinally between an arm in a drum type washing machine sequentially controlling respective processes such as washing, rinsing, and dewatering processes in a rotary drum arranged freely rotationally in the horizontal direction substantially. SOLUTION: A rotary drum 5 rotating in the horizontal direction substantially is included in a tub 4, and water is supplied into the tub 4 through a water supply valve 8, while water inside the tub 4 is discharged by means of a drain pump 10. The tub 4 and the drain pump 10 are communicated with each other through a drain passage 11, and a.freely removal foreign matter collector 20 is arranged in the drain passage 11. The foreign matter collector 20 is provided with a partition plate 22 dividing the drain passage 11 by a predetermined area, and a rib 24 facing the partition plate 11 is arranged on the inside wall of the drain passage 11.
