PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a main spindle balancer for machine tool capable of securely and effectively reducing a load of an elevation driving means for elevating a main spindle unit, securely improving the positional accuracy of the main spindle unit in the vertical direction by the elevation driving means, realizing speedup of the elevating speed of the spindle unit, and reducing the manufacturing cost while simplifying (miniaturization) the structure including the elevation driving unit. SOLUTION: In this main spindle balancer 30, a gas spring 35 filled with the compressed gas is provided in the vertical attitude, and this gas spring 35 support a main spindle unit 10 so as to reduce a load to be applied to an elevation driving mechanism 20. The gas spring 35 has a cylinder main body 40 and a rod member 50 to be inserted into the cylinder main body 40 so as to receive the gas pressure of the compressed gas, and the cylinder main body 40 is fixed to the spindle unit 10, and the rod member 50 is extended downward from the cylinder main body 40, and a tip thereof abuts on a stopper part 3 of column 1 so as to stop.
