PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrostatic ink jet recording apparatus capable of forming an image of high quality by a simple constitution. SOLUTION: In an electrostatic ink jet recording apparatus equipped with selective flocculation devices 2A-E for selectively flocculating colorant particles in the vicinity of the leading end parts of discharge electrodes 206A-E corresponding to the presence of printing data and a colorant particle jet device 3 for discharging the colorant particles flocculated by the selective flocculation devices 2A-E by an electric field, the colorant particle jet device 3 common to a plurality of the discharge electrodes 206A-E is provided.
