PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for pickling a hot-rolled steel sheet by which remained scale and overpickling are prevented and pickling rate is improved, when the hot-rolled steel sheet is heated and pickled. SOLUTION: After raising the surface temperature of the hot-rolled steel sheet, while measuring the surface temperature of the hot-rolled steel sheet before the sheet is brought into contact with a conveying roll and surface temperature of the conveying roll, the pickling is executed after the surface temperature of the conveying roll is adjusted by heating so that the absolute of the temperature difference between the surface temperature of the conveying roll and the surface temperature of the hot-rolled steel sheet becomes <=10 deg.C.
