PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To rapidly and accurately judge on whether or not the impact configuration of a vehicle is symmetrical or asymmetrical. SOLUTION: A time when either of the decelerations G1 and Gr detected by the right and left side front sensors installed on the right and left side front of a vehicle exceeds a threshold value G1 continuously three times is designated as a start time ts, and a time when the double integral of the deceleration G detected by the front sensor on an impact side with respect to time reaches so-called a threshold value T1 obtained by multiplying a coefficient by an occupant moving time is designated as an end point time te. Then, time integrated values V1 and Vr of the decelerations G1 and Gr in the integral interval between the start time ts and end point time te are calculated. When the ratio (V1/Vr) of the time integrated values V1 to Vr calculated is within a specified range, the judgment is made as symmetrical impact and, when it is out of the specified range, the judgment is made as asymmetric impact. Because a judgment timing is set considering the occupant moving time, the impact configuration of the vehicle can be judged rapidly and accurately.
