PURPOSE: A hybrid optical recording disc with copy protection for use in a computer provides software titles on a medium which is inserted into a CD-ROM drive of any computer for installing the software programs thereon, and protects against copying such software programs from the computer to a copy medium. CONSTITUTION: The hybrid optical recording disk which is used in a computer and is protected against duplication includes a read-only region having the preformed information including at least one program and disk identifier data and a recordable region. The disk identifier data authenticates the program transferred to the computer and permits the operation of the program by the computer.
