PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electro-slag remelting method capable of stably producing a steel ingot free from solidified and shrinked pores on its top. SOLUTION: In an electro-slag remelting method in which a consumable electrode is melted in the presence of molten slag and molten metal dropped and settled through the molten slag is continuously solidified, the molten slag after the dropping and settling stage is thermally insulated. Preferably, the surface of the molten slag is thermally insulated.
