PURPOSE:To reproduce a picture with high picture quality in the special reproduction mode when a digital picture signal subject to in-pattern/inter-pattern coding like an MPEG or an ATV is recorded digitally onto a VTR. CONSTITUTION:An input picture signal is given to an in-pattern/inter-pattern discrimination device 20, in which whether or not all the patterns are data subject to in-pattern coding is discriminated and the result is commanded to a memory revision discrimination device 22. A memory 1 stores an input picture signal of a pattern commanded by a memory revision discrimination device 22 and the data are sent to an MPX 5 and an output of the memory 1 and the input picture signal are recorded onto a medium by a recorder 6. On the other hand, a data number of an output of the memory 1 is measured by a counter 21 and given to the memory revision discrimination device 22, in which the data number measured by the counter 21 is compared with a predetermined value and when the data number exceeds a predetermined value, data by one pattern to be discriminated to be in-pattern coding are stored in the memory 1 by a command. |
