摘要 PURPOSE: An optical communication system is provided to distribute an additional band width exceeding 1 Gbps to each subscriber by optically combining a base band signal and a pass band signal and to transmit the combined signal through a common optical fiber. CONSTITUTION: A system(30) is provided with a first light transmitter(40) for responding to an inputted electric base band signal from a base band source(28) and a second light transmitter(41) for responding to an inputted electric pass band signal from a pass band source(29). The transmitters(40,41) separately generate optical signals including information on the inputted signal of each. Next, an optical coupler such as an optical power coupler(42) optically combines the optical signals to transmit the combined optical signals to a light receiver(35), which is capable of detecting and demodulating both of the base band signal and the pass band signal. The receiver(35) is also capable of executing the electricity/light conversion of the pass band signal deeper in a network to allow a central station to provide an optical pass band signal.
