PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the viscosity of an aqueous resin emulsion and, simultaneously, to lower its lowest film-forming temperature by selecting a film-forming temperature modifier (a plasticizer or a film-forming auxiliary). SOLUTION: A vinyl acetate based polymer emulsion comprises a vinyl acetate based polymer emulsion and an organic acid ester compound represented by formula I [wherein Ar is an aromatic hydrocarbon group; X is a divalent group represented by formula II or III (wherein R1 and R2 may be the same or different and each a hydrogen atom or a 2>=C hydrocarbon group; (n) is a number of 1-5; and (m) is 1, 3 or 4); and R is a hydrogen atom or a 1-4C hydrocarbon group].
