PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which improves the visibility and the beautiful decorativeness and has excellent display quality. SOLUTION: The negative display mode liquid crystal display device 1 having a light shield mask 6 is provided with the mask 6, which is formed so as to have less than 100:1 transmittance ratio of the no displaying part 8b and the light shielding part 7 in the display pattern part 8 seen from the main observer's direction under the surroundings in main use, on an inside surface of either a transparent substrate 4A or 4B.
