PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high density optical information recording medium, particularly the high picture quality video use medium extremely large in recording capacity, and to provide a substrate for the medium. SOLUTION: This substrate for high density optical information recording medium substantially consists of an aromatic polycarbonate resin in which at least 20 mol% of the whole aromatic dihydroxy component is 1,1-bis(4- hydroxyphenyl)-3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexane. The polycarbonate resin has such feature that (A) the specific viscosity of the resin measured by dissolving 0.7 g of the resin in 100 ml of methylene chloride ranges 0.2 to 0.5 at 20 deg.C, and that (B) the water absorptivity of the resin defined by this invention is <=0.2 wt.%. The high density optical information recording medium is obtained by using that substrate. |
