PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical transmitter which compensates for the wavelength variance of a WDM system optical signal due to a polarization orthogonal method, and to provide a method for expanding channel. SOLUTION: This transmitter is provided with a plurality of optical signal generating means 15, which output light of a prescribed different wavelength with specified polarization, one or more optical devices 21, whose 1st port is connected to at least one of the plurality of the means 15 and where light made incident on the 1st port, are made to emit to a 2nd port and light made incident on the 2nd port is made to emit to a 3rd port, a dispersion compensation device which is connected to the 2nd port and has a prescribed dispersion value, a polarization converting means 23, which is provided on a side being different from the 2nd port of the dispersion compensation device and turns the radiation polarization of the dispersion compensation device for making the radiation polarization incident on the dispersion compensation device again, and a wavelength multiplexing means 17, which multiplexes light from the 3rd port and light from the means 15 or light from the 3rd port with each other and where, in whose output, polarized waves of adjacent wavelengths cross orthogonally. |
