PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liquid crystal display device having high brightness by enhancing utilization efficiency of light such as a back light. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display device is provided with a color filter formed in each pixel region of the surface of a liquid crystal side of one transparent substrate of transparent substrates disposed being opposed to each other through the liquid crystal, an illuminating means for generating light to be transmitted through the liquid crystal and the color filter in each pixel region and a phosphor developing a color as same as the color of the color filter by irradiation with the light from the illuminating means in the step before the light is passed through the color filter.
