PURPOSE:To minutely control the opening degree of a tundish stopper by controlling as adjusting the opening degree of the stopper in accordance with the meniscus level in a mold and also giving fine vibration to the stopper. CONSTITUTION:The molten metal is poured into the mold 4 through a nozzle 3 arranged at the bottom part of the tundish 2, which is set below the molten metal ladle 1. The meniscus in the mold 4 is detected by a sensor 6 of a leveler and a hydraulic cylinder 10 is controlled through a servo mechanism composing of a servo amplifier 8 and a servo valve 9, so as to cancel the difference between the actual measuring meniscus level detected by a level control device 7 and the aimed meniscus level, and the stopper 5 is shifted vertically to adjust the opening degree of the nozzle 3. Then, a signal for vibration by the high frequency wave is superimposed to a control signal for working the servo mechanism. By this superimposed signal, the fine vibration is given to the tundish stopper 5 through the servo mechanism. In this way, the opening degree of the nozzle 3 is finely adjusted and the stable casting operation is executed.
