PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication system of an OFDM transmission system. SOLUTION: A selecting device 201 of a communication system 101 selects the number of sub carriers of the OFDM transmission system and transmits information designating it to a transmitter 301 and a receiver 401. The transmitter 301 accepts a signal to be transmitted, also receives information designating the number of sub carriers transmitted from the device 201, and processes and transmits a signal to be transmitted by the OFDM transmission system of the pertinent number of sub carriers. The receiver 401 receives the signal transmitted from the transmitter 301 and also the information designating the number of sub carriers, processes the signal received by the OFDM transmission system of the pertinent number of sub carriers and obtains the transmitted signal.
