PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color cathode-ray tube of a planar panel type, which is excellent in flatness, contrast, and color reproducibility range. SOLUTION: The color cathode-ray tube have a vacuum envelope which comprises a panel 1 having a fluorescent material layer on the inner surface thereof, a neck housing a electron gun, and a funnel connecting the panel with the neck. In the case of taking a main scanning direction of a screen formed by the panel 1 as X-direction, and a direction perpendicular to the main screen direction as Y-direction, in X-direction, equivalent curvature radius Rxo of outer surface of the panel 1 is at least more than 2.6 times of equivalent curvature radius Rxi of inner surface of the panel, and an inside optical absorption layer 4c is formed on the inner surface of the panell.
