PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image transmitter that can automatically correct transmission image data and transmit a sharp image from which characters can easily be read without the need for manual revision of the gray level and resolution of the transmitted image and for passing through of the original many times to output again a confirmation image in the case that hardly recognizable characters are described on the original. SOLUTION: A character recognition means recognizes the characters in the image data, compares its character recognition rate with a preset setting value #8, and corrects the resolution of the transmission image data depending on the result of comparison #9. Thus, in the case that thin characters or small characters that can hardly be recognized as characters are described on the transmission original, the image transmitter can automatically revise the resolution of the transmission image data and transmit a proper image #16, #21.
