PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of difficulty in speedily estimating the intercept and end point of a segment on a real plane. SOLUTION: A two-dimentional Fourier transform means 11 executes two- dimentional Fourier transform to an object image. A gradient estimating means 12 estimates a gradientαof a segment from the transformed image data. A straight line data extracting means 14 extracts a value on a straight line passing an origin on a Fourier plane and having gradient -1/α. A one-dimentional inverse Fourier transform means 15 executes one-dimentional inverse Fourier transform to the arrangement of a values on that straight line. An intercept estimating means 16 estimates the intercept by detecting the maximum value of these data. An end point estimating means 17 estimates the end point by searching the segment on the straight line on the real plane specified by the gradientαand an interceptβof the segment in the object image on the real plane.
