PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface mount crystal oscillator and a production method thereof with which productivity is improved and impulse resistance is made satisfactory by excluding the waste in a surface mount container. SOLUTION: This oscillator is provided with a crystal piece with integrated holder having a characteristic detecting terminal while electrically/mechanically connecting the outer peripheral part of the crystal piece extending a pair of drawing electrodes to the side of one terminal and the main body of the container for surface mounting having a recessed part for housing the crystal piece with integrated holder and having a step on the side of the other terminal and the other terminal part of the crystal piece with integrated holder faces the step of the main body of the container. Besides, concerning the production, after the vibrating characteristics of the crystal piece with integrated holder are measured, the crystal piece with integrated holder is housed in the main body of the container while making the other terminal part face the step of the main body of container and a cover is sealed.
