PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable resistor which is easy to mount and assemble a cap and has a high mounting strength thereof. SOLUTION: This variable resistor has an insulation board 10, having a through-hole 18 at the center, a cap 40 provided on the insulation board 10, and a rotary shaft 45 which projects to the cap 40 and penetrates the through- hole 18 projecting on the cap 40. The rotary shaft 45 is formed like a fork having flanges 46 at the ends, the rotary shaft 45 is inserted into the through- hole 18 of the board 10, and then the flanges 46 are molten and solidified to expand farther outwards.
