An access server for enabling identification of the type of a line without introducing any dedicated line or dedicated call-in number, comprising a line accommodating section (11) accommodating plural types of lines, a call processing section (12) for analyzing the "call setting" message associated with an access and identifying the type of a line, and an outputting section (13) for executing a signal processing adapted to the signal of the line and routing the message to the destination, wherein the call processing section (12) includes specifying means (14) which monitors the information in one or more predetermined information elements of the various information elements included in the "call setting" message and indirectly identifies the type of the line of newly established digital data communication through which an access is made.
