The wheel lifting system has a pneumatic device comprising at least one bellows(6) located below the spare wheel(4) in its lowered position, and by means of exhaust gas directed through a hose(19) connected to the bellows and to the vehicle's exhaust system(24) the spare wheel is raised by expansion of the bellows. A support plate is located between the bellows and the wheel. A piloted check valve(29) and a pressure relief valve(30) are provided in the connecting hose.
