A leading device for a soil compaction device has a shearing-off beam (3), grinding elements (9, 9', 9'') and a drag beam (7). The grinding elements (9, 9', 9'') are attached to the beam by means of chain links (10, 11, 12). A linking apparatus (15), as part of a connecting device, which, for example, belongs to a tractor, is linked to lower links (33, 35) of the tractor. The linking apparatus (15) holds the leading device (1) flat on a working surface (37). It is possible, as a result of the space-saving construction and arrangement of the leading device (1), both to perform preliminary levelling of the working surface (37) and to work the latter with a soil compaction device, such as a roller, in one operation, it being possible to use rollers with shaft lengths of customary construction. <IMAGE>
