Continuous dyeing of synthetic fibres - from org solns. contg. reaction prods of cyclic phosphates and amines as solubility improvers

The dye baths contain(a) a dye free of -SO3H or -COOH gps; (b) an org. solvent or mixt and (c) cpds of formula (where R1 and R2 are H or Me, R3 and R4 are H or 1-4C alkyl. If R1 and R2 are Me, R3 and R4 are H, while if R3 is propyl or butyl, R4 is H. X is ammonium gp. N+R5R6R7, R5 and R6 are H, 1-9C alkyl or a gp -(CnH2nI)zH, n=2 or 3, z=1-10, R( is an 8-20C aliphatic gp; or with R6 forms a piperidine, morpholine, imidazole, or imidazoline ring). Amt of (c) is 0.1-10 (pref. 0.5-2) times the wt of dye, and (b) is an opt. halogenated aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon. Smaller amts (c) are required than with known solubility improves, and deep shades are obtd on synthetic fibres.
