The pencil ignition coil assembly comprises module connected to and disconnected from an engine spark plug with central ferromagnetic core and electric terminals (54). The cylinder head (72) of the engine has multiple cylinders (74) with spark plug hole (76). The spark plug (80) has a distal end of a terminal (118) mating with the terminal. The terminals care connected together by mechanical locking connection keeping together when module is disconnected. An independent claim is also included for a method of making an ignition coil assembly.
