The panel-form cladding element has on one attachment side(4) a fastening hole(2) for the fixing of the cladding element by a screw or suchlike to a base, and a holder(5) which is in the form of a flange on the attachment side protrudes from the cladding element. A downwards protruding hook element(9) in the form of a tongue installed on the cladding element's side lying opposite the attachment side fits under the flange of an adjacent second cladding element.
