The slabs (10) are divided up into short lengths, which rest on the track foundation (20,22) and have vertical abutting faces (42). Short metal reinforcing rods (44) tie adjacent slab ends together. The slabs may have two parallel ridges (26,28), one under each rail (16,15). There are transverse drainage grooves (32). The rail fastenings (24) may be fitted directly into the concrete.
