Process for connecting ductile iron with steel comprises applying a metallic material between a first component made of ductile iron and a second component made of steel; forming a boundary layer material containing the metallic material in an amount of 22-32% and welding the first and second components and the metallic material. An Independent claim is also included for a steering device for a vehicle comprising a steering prong made of ductile iron, a steel tubular material and boundary material made of 22-32% nickel to join the prong and the tubular material. Preferred Features: Welding uses laser energy to weld the two components and the boundary material.
