METHOD FOR TUNNELLING IN NETWORKS THAT ARE NOT SEQUENCE-PROTECTED

Many communications protocols presuppose that the underlying transmission path respects the sequence of messages. Considering the ever growing distribution of IP networks, it is desirable to replace a transmission path by an IP network for many communications applications without or with only minimally changing the communications protocols which are used by the communications application. The invention meets this requirement by using a bridge which does not terminate the transmission path for PDUs of the communications application during entering or exiting the IP network, whereby said PDUs are to be transmitted, but transparently transfers the PDUs of the protocol through the network that is not sequence-protected.
