A procedure for the manufacture of a fuel tank for cars has the fuel tank made out of at least two shaped plate parts. A tubular plate part is made out of a tube by internal high pressure deformation and the ends of the tubular plate part are closed by a closing plate part. The internal high pressure deformation is undertaken from 150 to 300 degC for shaped plate parts made from aluminium-magnesium or aluminium-magnesium-manganese alloys. The tubular plate part is made from a longitudinally seam-welded tube. Holes and/or extracts are introduced with the internal high pressure deformation in the tubular plate part.
