Continuous quality monitoring of doubled, especially false twist, yarn, involves measuring tensions in singles yarns and computing control parameters

The running yarn tension in each singles yarn (1, 2) is measured (15, 25) and the quality of the doubled yarn (9) monitored by a quality assessment of each singles yarn against set values. The quality assessment is derived by summing up deviations of the tension from limiting values using the mean, coefficients of variation, maxima and minima, together with suitable weighting. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a corresponding method of quality assessment involving a comparison against a combined set value for the doubled yarn; (b) a method of producing doubled false twist textured yarn including quality monitoring as described, using a quality standard for each singles yarn; (c) a corresponding method using a quality standard for the doubled yarn; (d) equipment for monitoring and assessing quality of doubled yarn by assessing singles yarns; (e) equipment for monitoring quality of doubled yarn by measuring tension in singles yarn and using a standard for the doubled yarn.
